i have a 352 bored 60 over and was wondering what i could do to increase horsepower.can you use a crank from another fe family motor or would you have to change other things as well? Any suggestions ?
i'm looking for more horses. I've got an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb and the engine has been bored over 60.I just bought a set of headers, also. What I mainly wanted to know was if I could use a crank from another fe engine like from a 390 or would I have to change other things as well? Also I was looking for a cam but I dont know how high of a duration to get.I want the biggest cam I can use without having to change rocker arms and stuff. The engine has great performance with the rpms up but from a stand still its pretty sorry. Any help would be appreciated.
Rod you can't put a 390 crank in. You could if you had the 360. Try an Edlebrokc performer cam. With the engine drilled 60 over you could have overheating problems that you will need to watch out for.
That engine is designed for low rpm torque. You need a cam that will give it max at about 2500 - 3000 rpms
I have an Edlebrock Performer kit in my 352, and never turn it over 4000. It is not a race truck but is fast.
Rod go to the Edlebrock site and work your way to the cams and look at the torque specks there. Crain and a few others should have sites as well.
I installed the kit on a rebuild, cam. intake, and 1406 600cfm carb. I drilled it 30 over, shaved the heads 30, put on Hooker Hicomp headers, a C6 auto. 76 I-beams and power disk brakes, power steering, and changed the rears from 3.25 to 2.75 and the truck is pretty strong. My C6 isn't shifting exactly like I want, but we're working on that also.
The 352 is a big block and has always had plenty of power. The things that we did not only gave it more power, but better fuel milage.
