My 352 smokes only when I rev it up or step on the gas. the smoke looks grey. Also I plan to rewire the truck does it all have to be a certain gauge or does it matter if you use a fuse.
I would fuse at least everything that was fused originaly, and possible anything else that comes directly from the battery. one short on an un fused circuit and you will be doing the big job over again. and I would use at least the same gauge wires as factory. the smaller the number is bigger and bigger is always better.
as for the smoke it could be a lot of things, it sounds like possibly timing, something causing it not to burn all the fuel, unless it is blue smoke then it is oil.
take the valve covers off and make sure the drain backs are clear.,.. you might want to run a clothes hanger down them to make sure... and i also agree it could be a timing problem so i would check that.. and then crank it up poor transmission fluid down the carb... not too much.. and run it down the road as fast as it'll go.. WIDE OPEN...
Chenders, Tramsmission fluid burns too, If he has an automatic, his problem may be a leaking vacuam modulator down on the transmission, It could also be a Stuck PCV Valve, and leaky valve stem seals.
I just put new Valve stem seals in my 460 and it stopped a lot of the Oil consumption.
