I wrote last month explaining of problem I had with starter solenoid engaging regardless of what position the key was in. Someone named Phillip G. responded saying the wiring could be fused together and even stated color the wires could be that were together. Well his assumption was right and it was at the neutral switch where they cut neutral switch in clear and spliced all the wires together. I reconnected the neutral switch and now the starter will not engage at all. How do I prove the neutral switch is bad? Do I splice the red with blue stripe together?
And to Phillip G. thanks for responding last time and offering faxed copies of wiring diagram. I currently have wiring diagram from 78 Ford Bronco and they seem to be pretty close to the same. Thanks!!
Gary these electrical problems can be real hair pullers. You really need to find the manuals for your model. If you turn the ignition on you should be able to put a screwdriver across the wire to the starter, and one of the small ones at the selionod and the starter will engauge, if not there is no power.
It's one of those deals where you need to be there to help.
It must have been disappointing when you finally cure one thing and yet the very same component is still bad! My bet is the other owner bypassed the neutral switch because it was bad and now you have just re-hooked to a bad one! By the way,do your reverse lights work also? If not,you may need a new {or another?}neutral switch just for that function to work. And yes,you can splice the RED/BLU wires together, but verify that that wire only receives juice while the key is in the start position before slicing them together{you will get juice only from the cab side, not the solenoid side until you splice the wires}. If no juice available there,go to your spark module and check the RED/BLU wire there,it may still function and you can tag the solenoid wire there.Good luck.

All good advice I've read so I will throw mine in. On the 67 thur 72 these thing had elongated slots. moved mine back and forth with key on start position and hit the right combo. it started. On the touble shooting side I use old radio fuse holder to temp. connect wires (my burn wiring protection) then connect test light to S on starter relay and turn key and if it lights up then it the starter relay.
