I have a 98 EB 5.4 4x4. The data plate inside the door says to keep the rear tires inflated to 35 psi and the front tires to 30 psi. I was wondering why the 5 psi difference? The only reason I can think of is maybe slightly lower pressure will give you better traction. But that is just an uneducated guess. I've had the truck for about 5 years and I just noticed this info.

Potential cargo weight and weight from towing require more PSI in the rear tires. Technically you could run 30 PSI all the way around and then add the extra 5 PSI when needed. Most people don't want to deal with changing the PSI all the time, so 35 PSI is put in and it's left alone.
i know the engineers figured everything out but i always felt 30 was a little low.i always preferred 35 all the way around.it seems a little firmer in corners.when towing heavy loads i bump all the tires to 40 to 45 but i also have lt tires.
The PSI on the sticker only applies with the tires recommended on the sticker. If you use tires other than what is recommended, then the whole correct PSI rating is up for grabs.
