Over the last couple days, when I start up my wifes '99 Taurus the clock, radio pre-sets and the auto climate controls are all "reset." By this I mean the clock reads "12:00" and the climate control is at the coldest setting with the fan on low. Completely different from where i had it set previously. When I shut the car off the night before everything is fine. The first thing that came to mind was that the battery could be on the fritz, its over 6 years old and its been really cold outside. I was thinking of just replacing it just as a precaution. But it cranks over just fine and everything works correctly. All the fuses are good and there is no sign of corrosion on them or on the battery terminals. The car has just about 140,000 miles and has been extremely trouble free since shes owned it. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Taurus cars do wierd things sometimes. I used to have major problems because kids riding in the back would play with the lights over my station wagons tailgate seat - they would turn them on, and leave them on even though it was daylight. If it was there - they would play with it....
I double checked all the fuses and they are all good. The car seemed to be cranking slower than it usually did in the cold, so i bit the bullet and bought a new battery. The battery that was in the car was a Motorcraft from 2002! Couldn't believe that battery was 8 years old. After seeing that I feel a lot better about changing it out. So far so good, it cranks over 10x better so we'll see tomorow morning if everything resets again. Hopefully that takes care of it!
