I don't know man, I'm sure there is a way to test it but I don't know it - I seem to recall GenLightening explaining the tach install procedure in a truck that didn't have one from the factory, if you find that thread you could duplicate it and see if that makes it work...
There is a relay near the test port under the hood on the drivers side fender called a TECA relay. See if you can find it and make sure the connection is clean. I'm not sure how to test it but you might try replacing it with a known good one and see if that helps.
hey i have a 93 f-250 diesel and the mechanic told me that it was throwing code 49 which is a low pressure code. he said it was ok to drive and the propblem was internal. but whats wierd is that it only acts up when its really cold or the truck gets wet could this be electrical on the outside?
I've just recovered from the exact same symptoms your having. It was the PCM. BOOOOOO! My truck was only shifting manually or starting from 2nd with no further auto shifts. OD light was blinking and tach was not registering. I had the PCM rebuilt by AutoSource Industries with a lifetime warranty. I wouldnt use them again. took about 8 weeks to get it back, they quoted me 7 days return. I tried to get in touch with them last week and their site is no longer up, no phone either. I wish I could recommend someone reputable but I can't. you do need to have the PCM checked by a ford dealer before you have it built. a rebuild is about $400, new PCM from ford is around $650
