first of all let me say im relitvly new to this forum. i am also a die hard ford man have been an always will be. now, i have a 97 250 an i have crawled under my dash for countless hours an have not seen an obd II plug. is it possible that it didnt come with one? i havent seen any cut wires its like it was never there? is that possible?
If it is a F250 HD then it is still an OBD-I. The plug is under the hood.
Since it is a 97 it has to be an OBDII system. The plug has to be in the passanger area within 3 feet of the drivers seat. This is by federal law. Any vehicle made after 1995 and sold in the US must comply with this law. If the truck was made for sale in Canada then it might still be under the hood.
No... only vehicles under 8500lb GVWR(f150 and F250LD) went to OBD-2 in '96, trucks over this retained the old OBD-1 system until the new SuperDuty trucks were introduced in 1998. We have been over this many times here and it has been confirmed to be the case for all north american vehicles, if you do a search you will find government documents supporting this.

Everyone is right in a way... . The over 8500 GVWR Federal trucks did not go OBD-II until the Super Duty trucks were released in '98/'99. However, from what I've read on here, it looks like over 8500 GVWR trucks sold in California did go OBD-II along with the light duty trucks in '96. However, based on what I've seen on these boards, I would say the majority of '96 and '97 over 8500 GVWR trucks were not OBD-II.
