Hey guys, I have a dilema. I have posted a few times about building a 1979 extended cab long box 4x4. I bought a 97 f-250 extended cab long box 4x4 and lets just say it is now a "parts" truck. I have a 79 body now also. I know it won't be a straight across bolt on project but what all would I be looking at. Everybody has told me to just get an older 4x4 and work with that but they are really hard to come by. My goal would be to have one hell of a nice 79 extended cab long box 4x4 and am fully willing to do the work involved. This is not a short term project but eventually would be a daily driver. I want 38,s a nice lift to clear them, possible cummins with a automatic - overdrive. Any suggestions? I know some might think I'm talking out my ***, but I want this and have most of the pieces.
I think I heard, that the position of the motor in the newer frame may set too far back for the 79 cab's firewall. I have seen plenty of built rods with modified firewalls, so anything is possible.
But if you already have all the pieces and a fork truck, why not put them together to check out the relationship of the tires and motor to the wheelwells and firewall.
As far as mounting points, Just some fab work.
I put a '86 on a '77 frame once. had to build the mounting points, no problem. The real issue is positioning the body relative to the frame to make it look right.
