I need help !!! My Old 71 F-100 360 with 365,000
just died on me. I was driving back to Dallas from
Tusla about 320 miles and I was 15 miles from home and the old boy just shut down on me. Now it won't start. The engine turns over but won't fire up. Any Suggestions would help.

Could be the points stuck closed, dead condenser, broken distributor shaft....... Many many things can cause this.
Take off distributor cap. Turn engine over while watching rotor cap, it should rotate. If not distributor shaft could be broken.
Check points they sould be clean, not all burnt up, and you should see them open and close when engine is turned over.
Also could be a dead coil, or coil wire. Check for spark at coil wire. Remove coil wire hold it close to a good ground turn over engine should see strong spark.
Also could be fuel problem. Is there fuel in the carb. The FE engines are famous for fuel pumps dying. Check to make sure there is fuel being pumped out of the fuel line.

If you have that many miles on the engine itself, then your timing chain (most likely the top nylon sprocket) is shot. Don't be fooled if the cam and distributor are still spinning, it only has to skip one tooth and she'll shut down. Depending upon how many teeth it has actually skipped, it may sound different now when it is cranking, like you pulled out about half of the spark plugs. Check your ignition timing, if it is way off, this is probably what happened.
It was the points on my '68. Outta the wild blue, on my way to lunch one day it stopped and, like the farmer said about his plow mule, "it set down". The real kick in the butt was that I had the new points at home waiting to be installed. Fortunately, AAA tows are cheap. Dan
