I got a 91 Crown Vic...2 of the doors door locks dont work...even when the system is in the closed mode and I hit the master switch I dont feel either of the dead doors trying to work like I would expect them to. Its the same with the locks in the open position. Furthermore the RF door is totally not lockable either manually, key or power.
I have the shop manual for 91 Ranger,Aerostar and Explorer and looked at how those are set up and it says something about some kind of relay before the actuator in the door. My hunch is its the actuators as they seem to be problematic across the board on most FoMoCo cars but am wondering if anyone else has had experience in this issue before.
Also, if anyone knows what size and type of rivet to use let me know.
the motors have probably siezed from water, they are mounted vertical to the motor shaft
Advance has motors for about $25 that have a variety of links to fit the different set-ups
drill out the rivet, it's a 1/4" hole, I have used a pan head screw and a "keps" nut" to attach the bracket (keps is a nut with a star lockwasher attached)
the motor snaps into the mounting bracket, but inside the door it is a bit difficult
be sure to lube the latches and connections with white lithium grease and get everything moving freely, the motors are quick acting but not all that strong
all that I have repaired only needed a new motor........did all 4 on my 89 CV Wagon
