This is about the forth or fifth time I've changed the fuel filter, it was done 25K miles ago. Can get the rear connection to release with the KD "E" end of the tool with no problem, front will not release. Also it seems like it is on too far on, even though I don't see how this is possible. I can just barely get the tool between the filter and fitting. BTW I was able to move the fitting back a little, and it will twist with no resistance, but will not release. In the past it always seemed three hands were needed, one for the filter, one on the hose, one pushing the tool in.
Don't know why Ford couldn't of stayed with the plastic break-away clips, and hose clamp around filter.
If you've been changing your filters using aftermarket bull****...that's why. I come in contact with this **** everyday. Try using a motorcraft filter.
I know you think the fitting is too far on the filter, however, it has been my experience that I have to push the fitting farther onto the filter so that the tool can be properly inserted into the fitting. I also spray a little bit of WD-40 into the fitting to lubricate it and facilitate its removal. I haven't had any problems removing a filter since using this method.
I second the comment about Motorcraft filters. I put a Fram on mine the first time and had a hell of time getting it off. Ever since I put Motorcrafts on and I have done them in just a few minutes.
