computer keys

Does anyone have any advise on how to change out the key and ???????? To put a normal key (without a chip) in? I have owned my POS for a while and the key has gone brain dead 3 times! My dad has a 98 without a chipped key. What would be the process of switching them out. Thanks.

Probably the easiest and cheapest way is to just have the PATS disabled in your computer.
That would have to be done anyway if you were to change keys and ignition switch.
So just have it turned off and keep your keys and all the same.

Could I do it myself? Ford charges $90 an hour. And I have lost all faith in the Ford Deaalership here! They had my truck 3 times and fixed the same thing all 3 times and it still did not fix the problem. I have been a FORD NUT my entire life!!! I will never buy anything but FORD! (CUT ME OPEN I BLEED FORD BLUE!!!) So if it something I can fix then I will! I love my truck! I just want to be able to drive it while I'm making the payments. Thanks.

Do you have a tuner for your truck? If so, what kind is it?
If you had an SCT tuner/programmer. I know a guy that could email you a tune to download to the tuner and then you could install the tune in your truck.
Otherwise,,you would need to have someone or the dealer do it.

Yes I have a tuner. It is the 1715 MAX Mirco Tuner 1171343 is the number under the bar code. It reads 98-03 Ford E, F, SUV Series V8 & V10 Gas Engines. The plug has a OBDII plug on one end and a 9 pin conector on the other. The 9 pin has 5 on top and 4 on bottom. I think I have a cable to mate it with a USB Port on my computer. I have been reading on the PATS system. It seems like it has an RF transmitter to the ket, then a return RF the the unit. Could I rewire the system to bypass the PATS?

I really don't think it's going to be as easy as just rewiring it , or the anti theft system would be worthless to put in the truck in the first place.
They started putting the PATS in there to make it hard on the thief's to steal your truck and sell the parts. If you start trying to rewire it your going to disable your truck,( It will not start then) and you'll end up at the dealer trying to get it fixed.
I believe the 1715 is made by superchips/SCT.

Yes, that's the one. It is just so frustrating sometimes the newer stuff can be. I understand. It just seems like no matter what is done to the truck, all of the mods you do, the trucks looks great, but you can't drive it. I have put 300 miles on it in the last 4 months. I make my payments on a truck I can not drive. If it isn't the key screwing up, it's the cops going out or something else.
