Smells like washer fluid in here

I couldn't figure out why I had gone though a whole gallon of washer fluid. So I looked at the tank...nothing. So I put a little fluid in and check for leaks. Still nothing.

I check the front washer----it works, then I check the rear washer, nothing coming out. At the same time it sounded like a dog was peeing on my carpet and it was turning blue.....WTF?!....lol.

Pulled it apart and reconnected with hose clamps. I rarely ever use the rear washer. From the way it came apart, a whole gallon siphoned out of the tank into my cab. I can't figure out why, it's been really warm here in SE PA this year.

I'm glad I read this thread even if it was after the fact, at least I know to check the rear connection above the head liner now before it decides to pop off.

Wow, I was not aware the rear wiper has a fluid line to it. Well I also have never used the rear wiper not even once... I just use my mirrors when the rear window gets dirty. Guess I will have to give it a try now.

When you really think of the design, it's really a good concept in my opinion...

First if you live in the colder climates and you use the WRONG stuff that freezes Usually at the end. I can see that the pressure would make the hose blow at any week point. Now that would be a nightmare! By having the Plastic connector ( the weekest point) located at an easy place to get to....well I think you all know where I'm going with this, nough said... Thank you ford engineers!

Don't tighten them to much, its a matter of time before you would need to remove your complete headliner if you do.

I'm not saying it's not a good design, I just wish I knew it was in there before my carpet turned blue. Maybe they should have a relief or blow out out near the pump itself. Just a thought.

I'll always buy a Ford, just waiting for this one to go into the ground. I retired my Bronco with over 250K miles on it. Let's see how long the Expedition goes.

I actually had to pump out my entire tank one time. I guess a previous owner was running some cheap/dirty fluid in it, could have even been water since it was Florida, and even my front washers would both freeze up. The stuff I pumped out was brown and yucky in teh bottom too. Pumped the whole tank out, filled with new RainX stuff, replaced the lines inside the cowl, and it's been fine ever since. Not a good situation when you're on the highway and you need to wash it and can't!

Well I suppose I should count myself lucky that this problem didn't crop up before now. My 2005 X has been behaving until a few weeks ago when we had a deep freeze.

I went out of my way to try and force new -30 degree rated fluid (I'm using the yellow Prestone) into the frozen blue stuff. Had I known about this issue I would've waited till it was warmer to flush out the old stuff. Anyway, got the back washer working and minutes later saw fluid dripping out of the rear trim panel ... DOH!

Found this thread, waited for our record warm temperatures today, and had the offending tube plugged back in and zip tied in three places within minutes!

Thanks, folks!!!

Great thread, I found my leak at the junction at rear of cargo roof area.

Been searching how to remove the rearmost cargo light bezel so I can get my big hands in there to plug back together and put some small zip ties on.

So to get cargo light out, just use christmas tree forked remover and pry ?
