Had to splash out on a 1.5 hours job of UJ replacement at 329.000 kms. This is the second one, cant complain though. Everything else mechanically is good . Will also have to get it in for a cracked windsheild when the weather improves.

Reason: grammer
How did you know it needed replacement? Visual inspection? Noise level? Or did it come right off?
Noise level & then eventually vibration over 70 Km/hr. The noise is a low level drone which makes it more difficult to hear the radio or have a conversation with a passenger. When it starts the vibration you can feel a tingle through the floor/ pedals at certain road speeds which generally gets worse as you travel faster. Job cost just under $200 CAD parts & labour for both ends.
Was this the front drive shaft? I gotta know, how did you remove that? I'm replacing the boot that protects the spline joint to the transfer case, and I had to drop the front axle to get it out. 99F350SD suggests dropping the TC, but that will probably require replacing the gasket between the TC and the transmission.
2WD vehicle. Unbolts from the rear end & pulls out from the splined yolk I believe. I did not do it but just as well I had it done, mechanic said the rear UJ was starting to sieze up. I had both replaced since they are only $30 each.
They give plenty of warning, I noticed it about 3-4 months back, I was hoping to drive carefully & do it in the springtime! NO such luck.
OK, your use of the words "Prop Shaft" confused me; most of the time that means front drive shaft.
Just curious, are both the front and rear u-joints the same models? When I replaced the u-joints on my 69 Mustang, I found that they were different, but most places only has references for one model; the rear.
U.K. / European terms. Sorry! Pablo would probably also say Prop shaft, we just have different terms. In U.K windsheild = Windscreen, Fender = Wing, Trunk= Boot, etc
Wrench= spanner.
At least we both know what a U/ joint is,
The front drive shaft your talking of could be a "half shaft" across the pond!
