making a monster
hey my fellow ford enthusiasts!!! I am in the proccess of creating a brutal, gas drinking, mud throwing ford. Something to **** off the local liberals!! lol just kidding...but not really.
Its is a 64 f100 4x4. It came with a stock 292 which I took out. I would like to put a cadillac 500 in it. I was just wondering if anybody has any idea whether or not i could possibly find a bellhousing adapter to make that work. The tranny is stock. Its either a t18, t19 or a t98. Im not really sure but i can find out if I need to. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

First you would need a bell housing to mate to the Stock T98 Which don't exist.
You may be able to find a bell in the caddy bell pattern which is not Chevy or BOP but they wont be to accept ford transmissions..... Probably only GM or a Tremec TKO.
I do not know of a maker of a bell to do this.

You know I don't want to discourage other people in their plans, but most of the people around here are Ford purists. If you want to build a really good mud thrower, then I would suggest a 460, or better yet a Power Stroke.
Welcome monster64, I like yeeoouuu!!!
Well, if it is what you got (caddy motor) you will need a tranny,,, I am in the same boat, but I plan on using a 460/C6 combo out of a 78 van, I would like to keep the stick also, but ease of install will probly dictate the use of the C6 since they are divorced transfer cases. Welcome to FTE and keep the fuel burnin!
By the way, which beuuutifull mountains, I am in some perty ones here?><!!!

Did you say El Dorado's? That's correct, but...
All 1967 and later El Dorado's came with front wheel drive!
The same transaxle was used in 1966 and later Olds Toronado's.
Good luck finding a M/T bellhousing for one a these!

ya i originally considered putting in either a 460 or a 429 but had an oppurtunity for a real good deal on this 500. Might still go with the 460 tho

I am in the Cabinet Mountains in Libby, MT. How about you??
The 500's were also used in the 74 , 75, 76 rear wheel drives.
Cadillac 500's came in all Cadillac's from 1975-1976. 500's came in ALL Eldorados from 1970-1976. From 1968-1974 if it WAS NOT an Eldorado it came with a 472. 472's are still very powerful and should not be overlooked. You can use the engines from any of the models you just cant use the transmission from the Eldorado as they are front wheel drive. Try to avoid getting an engine from 1968-1969 as they have had issues with oiling properly. There is no way to tell the difference between a 472 and a 500 unless you measure the stroke or check the numbers on the crankshaft. The 472 is the exact same engine except for the crank and pistons. You can make a 472 a 500 by simply swapping in a crank and pistons from a 500, thats all it takes. The Cadillac 472/500's came with only 2 styles of heads, 76cc (9.5-1 compression) and 120cc (8.5 compression). You cannot swap either head without also swapping the same style pistons or you will either have too high of compression or way to low of compression. Everything else is exactly the same. They are torque monsters and have all their power at low rpms (450 lbs/tq under 4,000 rpms) in a basic rebuild. I am in the process of swapping a Cadillac 500 into my 1966 F100 (follow the link in my sig). Cadillac 472/500's all carry the Cadillac/BOP bolt patern, they make an adapter to use with a Chevy trans as well. Im buying a built 2004r BOP pattern which is pricey so your best bet would be to find a th-400, I dont think a manual, unless built to high standards, would be a viable option. Do some research on these engines, there cheap to build for power in 350hp/450tq (below 4.5k rpms) if you have a good core to start with. The blocks are very high in nickel so excess wear is hardly ever heard of for engines in the 100k+ mile range. My engine was only honed and it still had hatch marks from the factory even after all the miles it had. Here is a great forum to further your knowledge on the 472/500's, I post there under the same sig and they are some of the nicest guys there you will meet. Cadillac Forum • Index page

If you have any questions im more than happy to help out. I know this is a Ford site and most here would rather see a Ford go into a Ford and im all for that and im mean no disrespect that im putting a GM engine in my Ford. I just liked to try something different with mine thats all. Either way you go I wish you the best of luck, your gonna have a blast in that truck either way.
