I just replaced the column in my 77 F250. The problem I have is that the shifter arrow does not line up with the correct gear that I'm in. N=Drive. Also the truck starts in P R N D is this just the neutral safety switch out of adjustment.
With the old column I had problems with my truck popping out of PARK and going into reverse. One time I just about ran over my brother in law. This is a problem that I would like to avoid in the future. (unless the mother in law is around) HEH HEH!!!
I heard that there was a recall for this problem. Is there somethong I can do to fix this?

I went through this with my 72 ....
yes it could be... But there is a `Metal bracket that contacts the safety switch. the bracket snaps in to the rotating part of the steering column( on mine anyway ).... I broke it off replacing the shifter housing and fought it for 2 days before i realized what happened.
I had this problem in my 69. I bought an aftermarket neutral start switch, unfortunately, neutral was the only gear it would start in so be careful what you ask for. You may also check the other gears 2 1, your problem may be your ignition switch. My problem started out like yours then the truck would try to start itself when it was running, esp. in R (possibly related to the N-switch)
