Oil pressure

I have a 78 F-150 with a 302, When I start my truck the oil pressure reads about 40psi when idling. But when the truck warms up the gauge drops to about 10-15psi when idling. Is this normal??

Thanks

Joe

Oil pressure

This is normal for an older, high mileage engine.

Oil pressure

From my experience with my newly rebuilt 460 and the loss of oil pressure that I experienced when engine got warm was found out to be in the main bearings. I had too much clearance... (mine was due to machine shop errors). But from that experience, and if you have lots of miles on your engine... your main bearings might be getting worn out... hence, more clearance for you to lose pressure at. Good luck.

Oil pressure

You must also remember that the oil "thins" as it gets warmer. some resultant pressure loss is to be expected.
