I hate it when they come back

It took forever to get this thing to go away:

I traded it about three months ago to a guy for a pretty much destroyed 82 Mercedes 300SD since I was looking for a smaller diesel engine. Well, I guess the city called him and said he needed to thin the herd a bit, so I got it back along with another one:

It's a 70 with a closed knuckle front end, manual drums, manual transmission, and locked up Buick v8. The body also has a bit of rust.
The upside is that this was part of the package:

81 Eagle, fully loaded and with plenty of cosmetic damage but no rust. I've actually wanted on of these for the longest time so it's a keeper. My wife likes it too, about the same physical size as her old Cherokee, but it actually has enough room in the back seat for a rear-facing child seat.
I feel bad for the guy, but given his situation I'm glad I could have helped. He was looking at paying to have them hauled off, so I guess I saved him money.

LOL! In about 1984 4 of my buddies and I rode from central PA to Daytona for spring break in one of those Eagles. Nice enough vehicle no complaints except that we had to take turns sitting in the middle of the back seat. The hump in the seat and floor were brutal!
We still talk about that trip and the horror of taking our turns in that killer seat.

Is that the SX/4 wagon? Yea, I would keep that too.

The roof and glass are good in that (real) Cherokee, I would not mind having that myself. They had some of the nicest front and back seats with plenty of room. I never understood the quadra-trac switch in the glove box, but, other then that, I always regretted when they went out of vogue.

imho, One of the nicest looking vehicles in a dark hunter green with wood paneling.

True, but the earlier AMC ones were not up to par with any other vehicles from the era, the build quality was poor, wiring was a nightmare, and vacuum controlled stuff is just a bad idea.
The 70 was built by Kaiser and it actually is in far better condition in spite of having more miles and being older. Better wiring, instrumentation, and far less rust. I actually feel kinda bad, but I have four projects right now, and no time for them. Last thing I need is a new project.

No, that is not the SX/4 - It's the Concord/Hornet bodied wagon and is the most common variant found.

The SX/4 was based on the Spirit and is sportier looking - Here's a good example:

In regards to the Eagles, the only issue I had with build quality was with the hinge pins/bushings on the front doors - otherwise, they are actually fairly rugged cars. Oh, and I guess I should mention that the ball joints are the same as those used on the 2WD cars and weren't meant to handle the abuse that people put them through with the 4WD (I got pretty good at replacing them lol). Never had any issues with the wiring but yes, the vacuum controlled shift motors on the front axle and transfer case were a very bad idea - The front shift motor can be locked in manually and held in place with a couple of large hose clamps which allows you to remove the vacuum lines and just have the ones going to the motor on the transfer case (this also makes it shift-on-the-fly). Whatever plastic those lines were made from got brittle with age and tended to break easily...

I'm all stocked up on vehicles for right now-
In looking this thing over better, they had obviously sorted out a lot of the build issues that the Wagoneer has, and overall it's pretty decent. The only real issues are the guy who had it is not overly mechanical, and destroyed the dash while replacing the heater core. Literally destroyed it, as in components hanging by wires and zip ties, with no main dash. The driver's inner door panel is missing and of course so is that exterior handle. The headlight surrounds are gone, and the adjusters are shot but those are cheap and available so I'll fix that right off. Needs taillights as well, but it fires right up and runs very nicely, about 78k on the odometer and the numbers all line up.
I just need to pick it up a little and get a different set of rims to fit 235s, then she'll join the fleet.

You wouldn't want this Pioneer ... I think The front seal is leaking ... Radiator leaks in 3 places ... Tranny slips between 1st and 2nd (I think it is the one from Peugeot) ... Back hatch lock broke ... Body tweeked so no doors seal and I had to punch drain holes in the floors to let the water out ... But other than that she's cherry ...
