Exhaust stud removal

Little history first. 1985 F250, 460cid. Exhaust went bad, needed replacing. Original manifolds look like they haven't ever come off since day 1. Got the pipes removed, but still need to remove 2 studs for the ball & socket "doughnut" joint. No threads on them to repair, anymore. when I loosened the nuts, a cloud of rust fell (what remained of the threads). What, in your opinion, is the best way to get these out, without removing the manifolds? I'm on a very tight budget, and can't risk broken bolts in the head.

The answer is HEAT...you need a torch to get it hot enough, then clamp a pair of vise grip's on it before it cools too much. I would not attempt removel in any other way...good luck!

Heat the stud, or the manifold around it? (Good thing I power washed the motor recently)
