egr code
with the smog pump being pulled off of my 1988 f150 5.0 4x4 is my egr even needed at this point or is it useless. and also with the smog pump gone could this be the reason for code 32 (egr) being present?

It costs you nothing and will give better efficiency at cruise and coast. It can also keep cylinder temps down.

The AIR pump and EGR are two different system. Each has it own set of sensors and parameters that are monitored by the engine computer (PCM). Removing the EGR may result in a loss of performance and MPGs. The PCM is calibrated for use with a functioning EGR system. The AIR system is less dependent. The pump and lines can be removed and capped, but the solenoids will need to be connected electrically to satisfy the logic going to/from the PCM.
A code 32 indicates the EVP signal is intermittently too low. A weak EGR valve spring, bad EVP sensor or poor vacuum level/control to the valve are common causes of this nuisance error.
