Old gas

hey folks, I am a new guy. Love reading the threads. I am not a gear head or anything, just trying to get by and not do something stupid to my RV. I have a E450, 6.8 L, V-10, 2004 that has been sitting for 2 years because I am stationed in Germany. My truck is parked in Tx at the in-laws and I had my wife disconnect the batteries completely and do an oil change with syntheic oil. Anyway, I think their is probably more than a half tank of gas left in it (30 gallonish). When I do try and start it up do I need to replace the gas or is their a way to stabilize it or both? Any help is defnitely appreciated. And while were at it is there anything else I should do to make sure the engine is road worthy?

Should have thrown some Seafoam in before hand but you could still do that and I would just run it, I've used gas that old more than once with no problems. I'd trip the fuel shutoff switch or pull the fuel pump fuse and turn the engine over for 5-10 seconds to get the oil circulated real good before you start it.

Agreed. Might also dump 5 gallons of fresh gas into it too.

Should have put a fuel stabilizer in the gas when it was parked. I only use Stabil (switched to the Aqua ethanol stuff) I don't have faith in the miracle in a bottle called Seafoam.

With half a tank of gas sitting in the tank you probably have moisture in the fuel too. I'd either drain the tank or add a couple bottles of water remover and fill the tank with some 93 octane.

If it were me I would drain the gas. No kind of stabilizer in the fuel for two years I say that there is a chance the gas is going bad.

Thankyou all for the great advice, I will try it. If it doesn't start I will just drain and start fresh.

I know this sounds bizzare, but I have had gas go bad in my quad in 4 weeks, while my Mustang sat for nearly 5 years with a few gallons in the tank while it went through a restoration. When I drained the Mustangs tank, I expected to find that rotten smell, but didn't. So I ran it throught my mower with no problems whatsoever. I suspect I couldv'e easily ran the car on it with no issues.
