Edelbrock Carb.

Well here lately I been fiddling around with my 79 F150 some and driving it, giving the 73 F100 a rest for a little bit.

The 79 F150 has a 302, Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock 600cfm manual choke carb. Truck is always hard to start when warm after it sets about 10 minutes(floods out and I have to hold it to floor to clear out and start). Well today when I turned it off I took the air cleaner off and looked down the carb, its seeping gas into the manifold. Would this be a issue with float set to high or something else? Truck runs good, loads up if it idles to long but that might be from the 278 crane cam in it.

Could be a float issue, might also be debris hanging up in the needle/seat.

Check your fuel pressure, make sure its not too high and set the float down a little if need be, if that doesn't work it could be heating the carb and the fuel inside it, might need a non metallic spacer under it or a good thick gasket works sometimes also. doesn't cost much to try these things anyway.

I have the same carb and it was getting too hot and boiling the fuel after I shut it off. Then it was hard to start and would drip fuel on the intake. It was leaking out from the shafts but mainly on the pass. side. I cut 2 thick spacers from some old gasket material and put them under the carb and no prob.'s since.

Fuel pump is a cheapo mechanical from advance. But I can check the pressure though.

Hmmm now that you said something about it getting to hot. It seems like I heard bubbling from carb after I shut the engine off.
I tried today starting it after it was warm without holding to floor and it will start just takes a while. Then when it starts you cant get it to rev up for a second. Now I am wondering if its flooding out or is it doing this because the carb is having to fill back up? May try the spacer first thing. Think I will have to install longer carb studs in my intake? Mine look pretty short.
