Barn Find

I am trying to put an 04 f-150 back on the road. It was in the barn of a house we rented, and the owner said we could have it if we could get in running and get it out of the barn. Used to be her sons, and he has since passed. Looks like he tried to stuff a Mustang 5.0 in this thing. Body is good, interior Ok at best. Got it running, but engine is not healty. I have a 1960 ford truck that I use as a daily driver. If I can get this running, I could begin to restore that one.

need a source for a new engine, a six banger would be fine.

in return for the info, I'll pass along a website for ya'll. www.globaldiecastdirect.com - ilike my ford trucks big and small, and I stumbled on these guys a few years ago and have bought about 20 toy for trucks from them.

any help with the engine would be much appreciate..........oh yeah...........it's cooooooooooooooooold in Daytona too! Burrrrrr

A 5 year old truck is already a barn find?

He tried putting a 5.0 in it?

Wow!

What seems to be the problem with the engine?

Hey Ya'll, thanks for the responses.

I hate to admit it but not sure I know the differences between the 2 body styles, didn't even there were 2.

I called it a barn find cause I found it in a barn, but it weren't really like finding an nice old model t. I spent some time under her tonight, hope my girl don't read this, and I see why it has different engine. It was hit up front, real hard. looking like everything north of the firewall is replaced. I think this puppy is looking more and more like it's going back in the barn. tranny and rear are both leaking. this truck got abused real good. not sure I got the time or dough to make a reliable daily ride outta this

sorry, i never answered ya'll's question on the engine. no smoke, but sound like it's running on 7 cylinders. no power, sickly sounding. I think I talked myself out of this thing, too big a project.

shame man. I would love to see a good built 302 in one of these trucks. shame about the condition of the truck

1997-2004 trucks are called "heritage". best way I can describe them is that they are "bubble" shaped on the fenders. no sharp lines.

2004-2008 trucks are full of sharp corners. the easiest way to identify is the front doors. they have a "dip" in them adjacent to the mirror. exactly like the Superduty does. Heritage trucks are a straight line in that area

I been laid off since October, and I could have used a break. thought I could stop running my 60 into the pavement, but looks like i keep using her till i find a job

You might want to check the paperwork before you get all involved with this one. You never know, it might have some history. Then where I live you have to be careful about what you change in a vehicle, and try to register it.

If it is running rough, start with the basic. Check the firing order. There are 4 different if I remember correctly. How about the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires? As for the leaking, seals and gaskets are easy and cheap.
Just some quick thoughts. Good luck.
