Going on with my CPS research. I have realized that we are going to run into an issue with everyone calling CPS's by color.
As we all know the OE recalled CPS's are black. The new replacement ones from Ford are Gray. And you can also get Aftermarket ones from International that are blue.
However, The new CPS the I got from the local parts store is Black and it is made by Standard Motor Products (SMP).
So to keep all things clear i think we need to start a database/thread of CPS manufacturers and their Serial or Part # to help avoid mass confusion later.
I have (2) International grey part #1876735C91 one in service and one in reserve.
I also have a busted black one (under the work table) and a defective blue one ( auto- off function with wipers while applying brakes).
The original Ford or IH CPS for the 7.3 was black. Both for us and the OBS guys and gals. The new Ford and IH CPS is gray for both of us. The new Ford gray part ends in -B. Ed has been unable to find any info on an even newer gray CPS from Ford as of this date, so as of today, the black vs. gray CPS is valid in dealing with CPS issues from either Ford or IH. Bob has some good info and part numbers here Welcome to guzzle's CPS R&R Web Page<
As for the aftermarket, I've heard too many issues with the parts stores CPS to really be concerned with what color they offer. My opinion is to stick with a Ford or International part.
And for clarification, the International blue CPS was not designed for the 7.3 / 444 motor, so use that at your own risk (especially with a tuner).
