Does anyone know any tricks or tips to remove the window glass from the "track" at the bottom of the window? I'm trying to help my neighbor with his '54 F-100. Thanks Alot
You will need to replace the rubber, but you can heat the metal channel to loosen the rubber and glue and then you should be able to work it loose. That's what we had to do on the vent windows on my buddies 52.
depends on if you are trying to save the glass. first off, wear eye protection. esp with old glass cause it's usually more brittle. yes you can use a hammer and small block of wood all along the flange to gently tap it off. if you arent trying to save it. i use a small screwdriver and stick it in the end and it should pry right off. this method is the easiest.
If it's in good shape, why do you need to take it apart? Some other issue? Seems to me this is one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of things.

Very true! If it's held in firmly, it's easy to bend the channel getting it off, if it's really glued in or stuck it's likely 50-50 you'll chip or break the glass. If it still has the original-style "bedding tape" in the channel, mineral spirits liberally applied will loosen it.
I know I know if it aint broke don't fix it. But the guy works for the government and their the only ones around here that doesn't know were in a recession. He has ordered tons of parts in the last couple months that he doesn't really need. But that's ok he's my fishin' partner, I've got the boat he buy's the gas.
I suspect your describing the roll-up glass? If so, you need to remove the access panel
1st(obviously..), then remove the glass from the regulator by removing the 2 lower rollers..these should be held by one clip each, remove the lower rear window channel mount bracket(as seen at the rear door end),..if needed, loosen the division bar at the inside of the door..spread the channels and lower the glass until clear of the channels. I would also recommend safety glasses and also fold a towel and lay it at the bottom of the door to help soften the blow if you drop it. It should come out of the inside door access panel ..take your time! Clean and Lube the rollers and guide channel at the bottom of the glass on re-assembly, and lube the rubber stuff with a paste silicone.
You gotta take care of your fishing buddies,..and have him invest in a repair manual..LoL!
