Cab Corner Patch Panels

I have 56 F100 rear corner patch panels made by Bob Drake. I acquired these when I purchased the truck. They are older. I held the patch panel in place over the corners and discovered that the bottom lower forward corner of the patch panel did not provide complete coverage. This spot or portion of the patch panel is located at the bottom and within the door jamb area then wrapping around the bottom of the door to the bottom of the truck. I hope this describes it adequately. My hope is that more up to date patch panels cover this area.

I bought a couple of sheets of 16 gage metal from Tractor Supply to weld into places some of the patch panels did not cover. I'm replacing the firewall, front floor pans and the inner and outer rear cab corners.

I got corners from Mid50 and had the same problem, I welded in some pieces it was not pretty and then slopped on some body filler... There might be some pix in my gallery.

Most replacement panels I've seen, do not fit exactly...if you look around enough at alot of different vehicles at your local pick-a-part, you may find a piece here and there that you can cut and match the original design...that may require alot of legwork and haggling...I would recommend trying your hand at "shaping" a smaller piece with a hammer and dolly, forming the desired piece by hand..then cut that area out of your new panel and weld it in..kinda like a 'sub-patch'..alot of times your local bodyshop/collision repair shop will let you scrounge their scrape/throw-away pile, and you may find 'a curve here and a curve there'.,with a little thought, you can fab and fit what you need,
Cutting, bending, welding, grinding and fitting are all skills that most anyone can do, If your at the point of putting new corners on,don't let a small 3" piece hold you back! Cut out that offending area of your new panel..and weld in your custom made piece, you may decide to cut out the area on the replacement panel, then come back later and make a smaller patch after you have had a little time to think about it...Good Luck!
