Without going into too much detail... how hard would it be to put a 6.4L in? I'm looking to get atleast 300K or more out of my engine now and the 6.0 hasn't been the "Nightmare on Elm St" yet (knock on wood)that it's known for. But if it's a upgrade and the 6.4 turns out to be a solid engine, why not? I very happy with my 6.0 and I would fight myself with the decison, but it's the "WHAT IF" that has my mind wandering. Thanks
I was thinking the same thing in my F-350,,,,But like you said my 6.0 has been Great so far 48k miles no issues at all !
I have heard that the 6.4 is a very reliable engine,,and it is already setup for the TS auto trans,,,,could be a decent swap.
I agree with Ken. it would be a nightmare. Having dismantled 2 excursions (1 gas, 1 diesel) and assembled one... I can tell you the wiring would be horrible to deal with. I had to change every single harness between the two trucks because Ford changed the wiring from model year to model year and from Gas to Diesel. Again, i'm sure they changed everything on the 6.4L as well...
You would have to get the entire dash from the 6.4 for it to plug in to the 6.4engine harness. And my guess is that the 6.4 harness would have no wiring for the excursion body harness since it was never offered in one. Not to mention, no provisions for rear A/C... etc... etc...
