I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find plans to build a new flatbed for my '78 F-250? Also any mailorder or online catalog to order under bed toolboxes. Any help would be appreciated.
Alot of guys here are getting the steel or aluminum flatbeds from Hillsboro (they make horse trailers). I've helped a couple friends build flatbeds, they are pretty easy. We didn't have any plans, we just made it up as we went. One was wood, just bolted 4x4's directly on top of the frame and then 6 or 8 4x4's crossways for the main supports, then planks on top of those. Very easy. Then we put small side boards on it, and bolted toolboxes under the bed, between rear tires and cab. Very nice flatbed. The other one was steel, same idea just steel, we got the steel from a local welding shop. The toughest part on either one is getting it all level and the right height.
He had the toolboxes laying around, but you may try a semi trailer manufacturer, or a company that makes toolboxes like DEEZEE. Just a thought.

They make stake beds for Ford trucks. They may sell plans. ray
I have just started to tinker with an old 74
F-250 Custom, 2wd, V-8. It has a nice big flatbed on it with a steel frame around the edge, and big wooden side boards. It doesnt look too homemade from what ive seen. I will look into it further and let you know if you like. Im going to use the truck as a "bad weather beater" and dont really want a flatbed though
the thing is so wide, that onetime my father in law was driving the truck and a guy rode on the center line coming towards him on the highway. It cut the side of the oncoming car OPEN. He still points to the front corner of the bed and tells me that, and I still cant see any damage....
sorry for the length. later.
John.
