I was just wondering how many of the people on the board who have a 73-79 truck, have the factory locking hood release that was available. When I worked at a shop we had a mint 79 f-150 that was maxed out with every option come in that had one. Since then I have been to Ford to find one for my 78 and found out that it is still available and costs about 125 bucks. The part number they gave me told me that they began using them in 75 but I am not sure is this is true. Well anyways on one of trips to one of my favorite salvage yards I managed to find one in excellent condition and paid 10 bucks for it. Since then I have been wondering how popular were these, and was it factory or dealer installed? Oh yeah, my old lady's 83 bronco has that type of hood release and I beleive it is the same exact thing. Actually I am positive it is the same.
If the hood latch mechanisms are the same on a 71 as a 73 through 79 you should be able to use the stock unit that was available. But I do not know if they are. All it is, is a hood release that goes attaches onto a unit that hooks to the stock latch. I have only seen these available with locks on the release handle. If the latches are not the same I'm sure you can still manage to hook it up somehow. How different could a hood latch be? I went to Ford not to long ago and they said it was still available but costs around 130 bucks. I assume it would come with the attatchment for the release. If you want the part number I can give it to you later.
Got a 79 custom 4x4 with the locking hood release from the factory-do question why, when anyone with a spare ignition set can tap right in and start/steal the truck-maybe just to fustrate 'em when they try to get the hood open!?! Chuck P.
Chuck, when growing up in the fifties, I remember you drove to town, parked your car / truck on the street and just left the keys in the ignition, windows down, no problem.
People respected each other back then.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
My Grandpa, my Dad, and even me, all leave the keys in the truck most of the time. Usually unlocked, windows down in the summer. Are y'all just paranoid or is crime really that bad, wherever you live?
