I am changing the paint scheme from red bottom with white top, to red bottom white hood and red top. Did Ford use two different ways of painting the top of the firewall ? also on (under)the hood, below the chrome, where did the paint stop? under the hood? cannot find good pics showing this. thanks .
I'm sure mine isn't right; but its in my gallery if you can tell anything from the photo's. I diffently don't have a close up shot like Mike's 65 display.
Fixed it for you, Mitch. The tu-tone paint is exactly where it's supposed to be. (btw: When looking at the pics, I see the correct "outie" hubcaps, but the fender emblems are 1966).
1965/66's with tu-tone paint have the darker of the two colors on the roof, including the drip rails. The door frames are painted the lighter of the two colors.
Some 1967/72's are the same as 1965/66, some are not the same, as the colors are reversed with the lighter color on the roof and below the side mouldings that fit on the raised scallop line (bumpside).
1965/66's were available with tu-tone paint...with or without side mouldings.
Side mouldings were optional on all 1965/66's except Ranger's, which came with them as standard equipment.
Tu-tone paint was optional on all 1965/66's including Rangers.
1967/72's with tu-tone paint ALL have side mouldings...as original.
tbm3fan, great pic s !!!!! custom cab, there's a 66 black and white, just like yours in my county. number dummy, you're helpful to everyone. thanks to all.
I still have seen pictures of the firewall being painted only about an inch down was this not factory origional??
Thanks again Bill; your my life safety link. About the hood emblems; I purchase those 66 style prior to learning that 1965 style where different. (Those vendor don't emphasive the correct year as your'e able to for us Bill). I havn't got the guts to pop them of and replace with correct type. I do have two sets of true 65 emblems; waiting to be properly place on. Some day or so!!!
Are you going to the F100 Nats in Pigeon Forge this year?
The wife and I are thinking of making the trip again. From what I've been told, Pigeon Forge is a much better location than that parking lot next to the zoo in Knoxville.
I was there in 2008, but I left Saturday, the day, as I recall you were there.

Mine suppose to be blue & white by vin. But since owning it and restoring it to semi OEM, I havn't seen too many black & white; mostly blue, red or green; cause me to paint it black & white.
Its get's alot of attention at cruise in's & local shows. I think mainly because of the color combo!
Plan on going this year; atleast Friday & Saturday; havn't check the work schedule; got acouple FTE'er in my home town that want to go. Looking forward to seeing you there Bill. I would consider it an Honor!
