I have a 82 F250 with 302 auto. using OEM gauges. My oil pressure seems to be reading lower than it did in the summer. I am using conventional oil 10w40 I think. Is the lower reading possible due to colder winter temps. If I change to a synthetic blend oil do you think that will affect the oil pressure? I was also thinking about using an oil additive that is suppossed to clean out the oil system any comments on this and products recommendations will be helpfull.
How are the rest of your gauges reading? Ford factory gauges are not known for being the most accurate in the world, due in large part to the use of an instrument voltage regulator that tends to fail with age.
I would not spend much money and worry too much based on the info you get from a factory gauge. Get a aftermarket gauge with real numbers on it, and then you can start keeping track of what's going on.
I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have other signs of low oil pressure. The older Ford gauges are "idiot gauges." That is an idiot light with a needle instead of a bulb. The only thing the needle is telling you is that the pressure switch is seeing at least 6-8 psi. Do like Dave said. If there is serious concern, get a mechanical gauge.
