I finally got my 6.0 excursion going and I was taking it for it's first run to test it out and it shut off about 5 miles into the trip. The codes that were thrown wer for the 2, 6, and 8 injectors not contributing. It cranks faster too so I'm thinking it's the O rings burnt or bad. It's my fault, I didn't change them when I bought it. I had a feeling this would happen right after an engine swap. What I'm looking for is why me, and how should I go about this. I have 16 more injectors. Should I just change them and get it over with or what
As stated before, check your FICM voltage if you have access to do so. MPWR should be around 48v (thats the PID name on a Ford scan tool).........Sounds to me like a typical combustion gas in the fuel rail issue. Most likely one or more injectors has lost its "seal" inside the cup, due to a worn/blown out copper washer on the bottom of the injector. Easy way to test this is remove the top fuel filter, and while there is still some fuel in the housing, crank the engine over without starting it. This can be done by holding the accelerator pedal wide open and spinning the engine (have a friend do that). You are watching for bubbles inside the housing, which would show combustion gas entering the fuel rails. OR you can remove the fuel lines at the top housing (the two going to each cylinder head as supply lines) and zip tie balloons to them. Crank it over and watch for pulsations in the balloons. I would focus on the driver side for bubbles. Combustion gas in the fuel rails has been known to cause injector failures, so don't be surprised if you need new injectors. I would go to a dealer, buy 8 new seal kits, and install 8 of the other injectors if combustion gas is indeed your issue.
