Hey guys, my 95 5.8 was not heating up and since I just bought it I thought it would be a stuck open thermostat. Well, I am in the process of replacing it and there wasn't a thermostat installed. My problem now is which way does the new one install? I was hoping to see how the old one was but obviously cant do that. lol Thanks Brian
Another question. Now the temp guage actually moves but doesn't get up into the normal range. Anything I should look at? It gets past the C but not past the next line. Thanks!!!
Btw the heat coming out of blower is nice and warm now.
What thermostat did you install, what temperature it's rated at? I personally like the 192F on the Windsor engines, 180F is a bit too cold IMHO. Also, the factory gauge ain't really too accurate, you need something aftermarket to know what your truck's really running at.
These dash gauges typically indicate on the low side of the normal range, but if yours isn't getting over the mark at the left change the sender.. it's a small single wire unit at the very front drivers side on the lower intake.
It is rated at 192. I know it heats up now since the heater blows hot. I will check on the sender wire. Senders are pretty cheap too so I can replace that if the wire is good. Thanks your help.
Brian
I decided to replace the sender since it is a $5 part and no joy. Tried grounding the wire and no joy. Must be a broken wire somewhere, but with a newborn and a 2 year old time is tight. lol thanks for all your help. I may just install a real gauge.
