I'm lookin at a turn key crate engine (302 windsor) but it says it for a mustang. Should it matter? I didn't think there could be a different type of the same engine lol. By the way it's goin in a 78 f100, 2x4, manual.
What year?
Mustangs are the most popular body style so everything is for a Mustang
The newer 302's (5.0) have different dipstick tube locations, roller cams, and some other differrences as well but it should bolt in.
Flywheels and balance of the engine is different between the old and new engines as well.
a lot of that is the oil pan. You might have to swap pans to get it to work in your truck (this will include the dipstick and the pickup tube) Also if it has headers with it, they probably won't work in your truck.
And as already stated make sure you get the correct flexplate for the engine (they should tell you whether it's 28 or 50oz inbalance)
The only differences that I know of revolve around the oil pan as well. The other thing noone has mentioned is the front cover. On the cars, the dipstick is in the cover, while on all of the trucks I have seen, it is threaded into the oil pan. You can put a truck oil pan, and oil pump pickup tube on it, then plug the dipstick hole in the front cover, so you don't have leaks. I am not sure about the 302, but on the big block, the oil pump itself is different from a truck to a car, because the truck pickup tube bolts to the pump, while the car piece presses in place.
