I have an air ride set up in my '00 SD250, and it rides like ****. I haven't been doing any serious towing lately, and every other truck i've had didn't ride near this badly. The shocks were all replaced about 2k ago, but it still has a crazy amount of stiffness in the suspension. I let the air out of the bags, no different. Anyway, can i just remove the air bags and not have to replace them with coils or anything? The rear is leafed obviously, but i don't know if originally there was something filling the spot that the bags are in now.
You probably have the heavy suspension, try putting some weight in the back. What kind of shocks did you put, were they bilstiens? If so they are a lot stiffer than stock.
If the air is let out, it won't ride any better with the bags removed. Also, keep in mind you are supposed to keep 5 psi minimum in the bags to prevent damage. Sounds like you need to find some lighter rated springs. Also, what shocks did you get? Bilsteins are the only way to go...
Ya i just got some 'replacement' shocks....Gabriel i believe from autozone. I've put bilsteins in all my other vehicles but i heard they didn't ride very well in the 250s so i avoided them....maybe i should switch em out.
The bilstiens will make it ride way stiffer than stock. It sounds like you just have heavy suspension. Instead of spending money on replacing springs with lighter ones just add a heavy *** winch bumper to the front and maybe an extra fuel tank in the bed to weigh it down it will probably cost about the same. My winch bumper with winch weighs about 400lbs, and my fuel tank is about 800 lbs. full.

Question: What other kinds of trucks have you owned?
Bilsteins do NOT ride stiffer. Do a search and read people's opinions of them.
Bilstiens are WAY stiffer than stock shocks, they are made for heavy duty vehicles that carry weight. I don't have to do a search I put some on my truck and felt the difference.
My F-650 will shake the fillings out of my teeth on the roads around here if the bed is empty. It ridess a great deal smoother when I load a Bowtie 3500 on the deck.
