Decoding VIN's

I'm looking at purchasing a 2008 F350. The VIN is 1FTWW31R48ED10531. Is there anything in there that says if it is Job 1, 2 or 3?

thanks

[1FT] the first 3 VIN positions are the world manufacturer code, 1FT is for Ford USA [W] the fourth position is the vehicle brake type and GVWR code W is for 10,001-14,000 pounds and driver and front pass. air bags (all use hydraulic brakes) [W31] positions 5 through 7 indicate vehicle line, series and body type W31 indicates F-350, Crew Cab,4WD single rear wheel [R] the eighth position is the engine displacement R indicates 6.4L [4] the ninth position is a government assigned computer generated check digit [8] the tenth position is the model year code 8 indicates 2008 [E] the eleventh position indicates the assembly plant E indicates Kentucky [D10531] the last six positions indicate the alphanumeric code for the build sequence. This is also the vehicle serial and warranty number. It can also be found on the engine block, transmission and vehicle frame. Hope that helps, but sorry, no Job indicators. Look for the build month on the door placard. It will indicate which Job your truck is. There is a chart at the beginning of the forums I believe.

using the vin and viewing the window sticker, it seems to imply build around 12/20/07.. mine shows 3/29/07 and the door sticker say 4/07

my breakdown came straight from the Ford Workshop Manual, 8 is the year, E is the Assembly Plant Code for Kentucky, and D is the !st letter of the 6 digit serial number for the truck

I do this for a living. I know it's a job 3 truck..... Your correct in what you saying, but also the ED indicates that the truck is a job 3. That along with the vin # is what we use to make tunes for a particular truck. EA, EB and some early numbers EC00050 indicates that it's a job 1, later EC say EC00051 (and I'm probably incorrect on the number) indicates that it's a job 2 and ED/EE indicates it's a job 3....

My serial ends in 9ea41442, and it's an 09 model JOB#2 according to the window sticker I printed out, so that blows what you said right out of the water. Although I was hoping I had a job 3.

That's because yours is a 9EA, not an 08. They are not the same and your will not match up with some of the AEA's which are 2010's. What I pointed is for 08 year trucks.......... Guess that blows you out of the water too!!!!!!!!!!

The only real thing that you don't want is a job 1 08... Too many problems with some of them...

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...fs/VIN2008.pdf as shown here the E refers to the assembly plant and has nothing to do with the job number, it refers to where the truck was built
