Do it myself or Schwabs?

so im looking at a 4" or 6" lift kit for my 95 f250, yes it has the ttb and no im not gettting a dana 60 and doing a sas even though i would like to. so skyjacker is my first choice for the lift and then the lazy side of me said let Les Schwabs do it and they want 1900 to do it and i said . i have the tools and resources to do this lift but my lazy half is saying let schwabs do it. so what do you guys think first 4" or 6 "? and second do it myself or let schwabs do it. i have never done a lift kit before but im sure i could do it. im also worried about it getting screwed up in the front with the ttb by either me or schwabs, can i trust them? thanks blake

You may pay a little more to have them do it but in the end you will be happier that you let them do it. You say you have never done it before so you dont know any of the tricks. This is what Schwab does every day. Plus, when they install it you will get a warranty of the labor. If anything goes wrong you simply bring it to them and they fix it (as long as it isnt from hard wheelin)

Springs are most def the way to go, however I did 3" cast iron blocks and it does just fine. I pull some heavy **** loads(10k to 25k lbs) And have never had any problems whatsoever

What brand is the lift? Any of the big 6 companies offer rear leaf upgrades on their kits. Pro-Comp, Rancho, Fabtech, Skyjacker, Superlift, Trail Master. These 6 are usually priced right around the same for like kits. Its only the upgrades that differ in price.

The 6" skyjacker comes with the heavy duty Ibeam brackets. Installing the lift is pretty simple, the hard part is getting to the I beam brackets (not much room between the oil pan and the crossmember). Air tools make life much better.

1900$ are you effing kidding me? The rear is the easistest to do by far and the front isn't bad at all. There's a drop bracket and just bolt on the rest of the parts the kit gives you. I really hope you mean 190$ instead of 1900, god dang that's almost a new tranny or a huge! Sewt of injectors and small oil, dang!

yea im not sure if i want the 4" or 6" yet. im worried about the brake lines and tilting the axle if i go up to a 6" lift. and yes i got the quote from schwabs and it was close to 1900 dollars for a 4" lift with front springs, rear blocks, and all new shocks.

If I was you I would go with the 6" Skyjacker, The heavy duty brackets are worth it. Just make sure you bring it to a good shop for alignment.

1900 is reasonable for a 6" installed. The kit itself is around 1200. Thats labor and alignment. Lets break this down. 1200 for the lift, 100 for the alignment and 600 labor.

I have a 96' F-250 PSD 4x4. I have had a 4 inch ( ruff country- les schwab lift) It failed on me twice, front springs sagged to almost straight, broke the add a leaf twice. this was from mainly hiway driving. Threw those away then went to a 6 in. sky jacker set front and rear leaf. The so called heavy duty bracket sky jacker has in no good I have actually ripped the steel apart where it bolts to cross member. the best breacket I have run across was from rancho but its for a 4 in lift. it has the drop down part and what looks like wings attached to each side going out about 6in each side for more support. when you go up that tall it puts a lot of strain on that bracket and the size of your tires will be a factor too. I run 38" super swampers. I modified my 6" to about an 8" and I run 6" leaf lift and 3" block in rear and I do not have problems with it. I still run the stock drivelines. I have changed the TTB to a straight axle. It is one of the best things you can do if you want to have a tall truck. I would post pick for you but I need to shrink the picks.

Maybe Im a cheap skate in all this but I prefer to do all my own stunts,... I mean mods. Then at least I know who to blame if it fails.

My question is, " how long does it take you to earn 600.00?" I base most of my spending decisions on this factor. I can make 600.00 in a day, but if I was working for wages it would probably take me 4 days to make that much money. That being said, you can probably do the lift on a saturday or it may run into a sunday project. Point is, you will save 300.00 and be able to say that you did it. JMHO.

Sounds to me like you are doing a bit more than highway driving. I have been in the business for 15 years and if I saw metal ripped apart there wouldnt be any kind of warranty unless it was a broken weld. The top 6 companies use chrome-moly plate on all of their lifts. The tinsel strength is much greater than mild steel. Not sure what tough country uses but I hope its chrome-moly.
