My question is, " how long does it take you to earn 600.00?" I base most of my spending decisions on this factor. I can make 600.00 in a day, but if I was working for wages it would probably take me 4 days to make that much money. That being said, you can probably do the lift on a saturday or it may run into a sunday project. Point is, you will save 300.00 and be able to say that you did it. JMHO.
There is a difference between what you make and an hourly rate at a shop. Most shops charge between $85 and $130 per hour. Yes, there are some that are less but are you sure you want them doing your lift?
Yes, I know there is a difference in the shop rate vs the mechanics wages. The shop needs to make money.LOL
My point is: if you have the tools and the location to do this, do it yourself. It is a relativly easy job that can be done in a day or two. Plus you save the money.
Just because you take it to a shop dosen't mean some monkey isn't doing the actual work. I was in the business for 10 years and I have seen some real losers working as mechanics.LOL
That is true, but now that shop is liable for your problems regardless of who worked on it. The OP said he has never done it. All it takes is one slip up and it is no ones fault but his own. If the shop slips up then they have to take care of it otherwise you have every right to sue and make it right. Remember, you tell one person anout a problem at a shop and they tell ten. I have done lifts time and time again and through sheer repetition I know what to do regardless of the year or make. In the end im just saying, cover your butt when it comes to your safety and the quality of your truck.
Again, I have done rework on vehicles that other shops worked on. Sueing people takes a long time. If he cannot do it by himself, I bet others on here can help him. I would NOT take it to a tire shop to do a lift. If he needs to pay someone then I recommend a 4WHEEL DRIVE shop. This way they should have a lot of experience doing this.
Until we do something the first time, we have never done it before. So now is a good time for him to change that if he has the tools and the location. Some people are not mechanically inclined and for them I do not recommend this without help. I have a lot of pride saying " I did this myself." Of course not everybody has this SICKNESS.LOL
offrdmania, I posted a visitor message for ya. At 25 posts you can use the PM feature here. Just trying to move the questions elsewhere to keep this thread on track.LOL
Youngfordaddict66. Is there a 4 wheel parts near you? There is one in Portland depending on how far that is from you. Lifts are what they do all day long and the techs have to be trained and ASC certified.

portland is an hour away and theres an off road shop in salem but i dont know if they do lifts or not. and whats that places name i might look them up and give them a call. and 95 Dually with how slow it is at the store i work at it takes a a month to earn about 800 bucks. and to the rest of you yes i would love to install the skyjacker 4" kit myself but with the ttb axle i dont know if anyting would change or put exactly perfect on the acxle or else my truck is . because i want my truck to be . but if i dont do this lift with new 35" Dick Cepek mudders than im buying a stealth front winch bumper and a warn 16.5ti winch because they cost around the same for both packages. so either way my truck is getting upgraded. but i want the lift and 35's more
I recommend the lift. It will enhance the look of your truck. You will enjoy it a lot.
yea i want to lift it to. do i have to mess with the brake lines or axle tilt or anything like that. and how hard is that front end to do. and what about a bracket for the front drive shaft les shwab said i need some kind of bracket because its a two piece drive line.
You may have to do front brake lines but most likely it is an option and they will only include a drop down bracket. Other than that you will only have to do an alignment. Be sure that your alignment shop is very close by because your alignment will be so far off that it will be very hard to drive the truck. Either that or you can adjust the alignment by eyeball to get yourself over to the shop for the real alignment.
