i forgot to mention I went thru all my fuses first and found 2 blown one for the electric locks and the other was under the hood dont know what it was, it was a 15 smaller one dont know what its for i dont have a book, all the 40-50 amp fuses were good, so ill have to check that wire at the fuse box i know exactly what your talking about J didnt know what it was I have to replace my voltmeter first thing in the morning then ill be out checking it.
starmilt are you referring to adding relays so the power is not being drawn off the switch?
I did that mod to my 75 F250 a couple years back and added high power halogens to it.
On my 92 that I just got I have been looking into some mods, even possible HID upgrade, just need more ideas on how to get the best light out of it without burning up all my wiring.
Is there a way to test relays without swapping them can i use a jumper wire to see what happens?
Yes you can test the relays in the car or pop them out and test them. I have a link somewhere that describes it in detail, let me hunt it down for you.
I just saw your last post were you mentioned the blown fuses... 2 blown ones like that are pretty good indicator that either A) a bad ground... check for loose connections or corrosion around terminals were wires are grounded B) a dead short... meaning a positive wire has hit ground someplace.. check for wires that have bad insulation usually found were wires can rub up against metal.
Yea thats what I'm talking about I'm running h3 120 watt high beams on my pickup.
I dont know about headlights but we run the big hid off roads lights and they don't pull that much juice we either run relays or constant duty solonoeds. I have trucks using both and the solonoids last longer seems like and doesn't have to be as protected.
I think I will do the relays this weekend, the h3 120's sound pretty nice too. The HID kit and clear lenses are probably going to have to wait a while due to all the other stuff on my truck wish list lol.
I really don't do any off roading other then my 2.1 mile dirt road I live on, my main goal is to get the best highway lights I can. 45 mile round trip daily on a country highway with lots of deer = big bumper guard and very bright lights.
LOL nice! I could actually get away with that here... usually only pass a logger or two heading out when I am heading to work at 4am and never any cops at that time of the day.
well i fixed my voltmeter fuse was blown in it, just bypassed it with a wire, beings a cheap wally world special. So ill brave the cold for a little bit and check the fuse box in the engine compartment anyways, much more than that will have to wait. It wouldnt start right now anyways with -6F as high friday
i just found this diagram and the fuse i replaced was for the backup lamps, I dont know what see fuses mean does it mean the ones inside truck? Also looks like the only relay to look at/test is TECA Power relay.

i would have to guess yes, the ones inside the truck.
well i have power to the fuse box in engine compartment now what?? All the fuses are ok there and in the truck, the only thing i couldnt get was the relays i couldnt get em out tho i was shaking from being so cold. the only relay i need to check that would do anything is the Teca After that im at a loss.
does anyone have a wiring schematic they can send me or anything? So i know where fuseable links are cause if relays and fuses are good thats my next step.
