Hey guys, looks like I need to be replacing glow plugs. Is there any preference on where to get them? Also anything I should know before I dig in? It will be my first time replacing them.

i got mine from ford it's not that bad use a thin wall 10mm deep socket and be easy on them before you pull them out use a baby droper to suck the oil out of the hole they sit in and when you go to pull the pass. side vavle off the back has to come up and out frist
Hey thanks, I posted this and then started reading the sticky thread, my bad. I think I'm going to look into the gpr first and see if that fixes the problem at least a little. However thank you for the tips.
If you do end up pulling the plugs and come across a stuck one then have patience. Keep working it and use some penetrating oil. It will come out eventually. I've never had to pull a head yet.
Make sure you get ones that say Beru (ZD-11) on the side on them (Motorcraft). Do not install Champions or Autolites as they have been know to swell inside the head.
Jim, have you done any tests on those plugs? i would be interested to know how those would last with being turned on for 2 minutes or longer at one time compared side by side with a motorcraft ZD-11. i don't expect you to run and test, but wondering if you have done it. i might be interested in ONE for test purposes though if you haven't. haha
No I have not.
I've heard of Wellman for a long time and they seemed to always make good stuff. When I heard my one supplier sold these plugs I jumped at them.
I can honestly say I have no personal data on them, it's like buying a Ford cuz it's a Ford: Some of them are good and some have troubles. Know what I mean? You never seem to hear the good but you'll sure hear about the stuff that doesn't last as long as someone thinks.
FWIW I have a set here on the bench that I will put in my own truck. I have no trouble running them based on reputation alone.
I got another question. I bought the gpr 109. However it is turned 90* counterclockwise when i put it on the mount from the gpr that was on there before. Does this change anything? I tried to start the truck and i heard the relay click on but it still wont start. looks like ive got a big glow plug issue.
I'd get a volt meter first and see what ya got for voltage on both side of the GPR, then I'd start checking your valve cover harness pins... Then Glow plugs but you got a lot of checking to do first.... Also, how long are you waiting after you turn the key before you try and start it? Count to 90 or so or watch your volt gage on the dash start to rise then try..
