So my truck is having troubles starting. I took a video of it. I cycled the glow plugs for about a minute before taking the video. Then i tried to start twice before the video and both times it wouldn't start. I just put new glow plugs in two weeks ago. oh and the smoke cleared up right as i walked away. Also this was after sitting for 4 days unplugged and its been in the 20s and 30s.
You need to test it with a clamp on amp meter or a volt meter.
I don't know the volt readings, but you should get 20 amps per bank on the amp meter.
The click is just a relay engaging the GPR.
You can try arcing the GPR with a screw driver and see if it starts any different.
I dont really know how to do this, but just arc the 2 big terms together which will engage the GP's, hold it on there for 30 seconds or so.
I think you have to ahve the key on, but i'm not sure on that one.
Alright. so i bridged the two terminals and it didnt change anything about the hard start. Once i started it. I ran down to get a multimeter to test it. I tested it, and the post in front had power to it all the time. Then I turned the key to the ON position and the post opposite of the constant power dropped down to 11.2 volts and stayed on for approximately 30 seconds because the truck had already been ran. I'm going to test it tomorrow to see how long it stays on after the truck sits over night. However I'm thinking the gpr is in good condition. Any other ideas for the hard start?
i say change the GPR and see what happens PS make sure its a GPR napa sold my buddy a starter solenoid and told him it would work his GP'S stayed on for 30 min. ride home. not good
That makes perfect sense now. I was worried it was injector o-rings or something cuz it shakes and romps pretty good. Thats why i took the video so you guys could help me out. But i will go ahead and order that Stancore gpr that Talyn talked about. Hopefully that clears up the hard start. Thanks for your guys' help.
