First of all I drive a very large truck ( 2001 Ford F-350 Crew cab Long Bed), When I am able to, I generally take up 2 spots side by side, because as fate would have it the one time i didn't, some stupid person who doesn't give a about their car opened their door and dented mine... and it's not possible to pull the Dent out cause it's in a body line, so i would have to have the door repainted. My Truck is a 2001 and it is absolutely cherry, except for the one dent, and i intend to keep it that way. So im at In-n-out Burger Today... I park and take up my two spots side by side as usual, as im walking back to my truck to leave this lady in a minivan rolls down her window and rudely says " Next time only take up one spot...OK?" I immediately snapped to attention and gave her A military salute and said "ma'am, Yes Ma'am." If I didnt have that stupid Fire Helmet sticker in my back window with the city for which i work on it... she would have gotton a one fingered salute instead. And im so sure she would be the person to leave a huge dent in your door and just walk away too... sometimes life really frustrated me LOL

Reason: profanity
You know, back when I drove my 94 Escort, I would have pulled right up next to your truck taking up 2 spots and parked so close that you wouldn't be able to get out. If you want to keep your truck 'cherry' you should park it away from the rest of the cars, or don't go to places where you have to park so close to others.
I guess it all depends on your point of view eh? What's good is good because it's good for me. I just wish we all could see it this way when we are discussing things in the club.
I take up four spots when I park my F550 Crew cab dually.
I cannot get out of a single sized spot if I "be nice" and just take my "fair share" of the parking space.
I dont blame the lady for saying that to you. Its rude for someone to dent your truck, and I can definately respect that, but its just as bad to take up two spaces.
Its pretty much a roll of the dice when it comes to parking, if your gonna get someone that will dent your vehicle or not. Keep in mind you will get noticed for taking up two spaces, and getting your truck blocked in will most likely happen to ya one day. That or worse.
I dont have a problem when someone who drives a large vehicle takes up 2 spots, if its a really small lot like at a mc donalds and they dont have much choice. The only time it bugs me is when someone parks a huge vehicke right at the front of a large parking lot (like a wal-mart or large shopping mall) and takes up 2 spots when there are hundreds of vacant spots further from the front where you could take up 4 spots and not give anyone a reason to be a jerk. When I drive our shop f350 dually ext cab I try and park as far away as possible from the front. What REALLY burns me up is when some jerk in a corvette or some boy racer with a rice burner takes up 2 spots so no one can park next to them like they have some rare exotic. No excuses for that behavior. I take up multiple spots in parking lots when im towing my boat or camper, heck ive even gotten some smart remarks said to me about doing so but I dont feel bad about it if im faaaar away from the choice spots. My wife gets mad at me when i park far from the front in my F150 just so i dont get any dents due to carelessness or wayward shopping carts.
ya know if I pull into a parking lot and a car is taking 2 spots and isn't in the absolute farthest parking space away from the entrance I will shoehorn my truck with in inches of the drivers door.
if you need that much space either park out back or don't go.
I drive a 350 SRW and 350 DRW w/service box on a regular basis and I've never felt the need to take up multiple spaces.
I don't want anyone within 20ft of my truck so I park where nobody else ever does. I don't think I've ever had to back up at any home depots or Lowes stores since I've had my license. I also like to use islands in the parking lot to my advantage. I park on the downhill side of an island if at all possible. It'll stop carts and it keeps one side from getting dented by an idiot for sure. The other side you just trust in typical laziness of people to protect since you've already parked way out in the boonies.
And yes I'm only 17 so I've still gotta go to school so I always park in the same spot every day. Parking next to someone can't be avoided. So I park on the end of a row of spots with a curb behind it and an island so I can let my bumper hang over so I can back in til my tires bump curb and on my passenger side is another island. Then I only have to worry about my left side and the same girl parks there every day who is really nice and knows I love my truck and takes special care to not hurt it. And I park all the way tight against the other side of the space to give as much room between vehicles as possible.
Long story short just park far away and use islands to your advantage if possible. Should solve your problems.
BTW: I only ever take up a single space. Sometimes the spaces are just too small and my mirror hangs into another space but
I've never deliberately taken up several spaces for one vehicle.
I choose to park in a single space and walk a little bit further. Never has anyone gotten pissed at me for doing that.
BTW - for those of you that have never had the pleasure, In-N-Out burgers are wonderful.
Mmmmm....double-double, animal style
in-N-out used to be my favorite, but lately here in Arizona the patties are so thin they are almost transparent and smaller than the bun, the last time I got a triple (no cheese) (allergic to dairy) and I don't think it had as much meat as a 99 cent burger at mac dodo's
I only take up one space but it's faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr away from the front of the store and off to itself. I'd rather walk a bit and know my truck's out in no man's land than fight for a front space and worry about dings and dents.
You are asking for dents, keying and a ticket in some lots.
Park farther away, and use the islands etc as per the prior post.
I drive a box truck with a 14' box and duals and it fits into most spaces width wise, sometimes a little long. If I have to park it over more than one spot, I either make it out of the way or am at a stop that will take only a minute.
BTW, an F350 isn't a "very large truck", even though you'd like to think so.
When i go to walmart i park out where the semis do way out there (its like a mini truck stop) and when they take 20 spaces that in titles me to 4 my truck is a cherry black 03 f250 4x4 sc sb and if i would find you traded paint with me i might have to see how my pintle hitch treats your door
hell i dont want my gf's silverado parked by my truck when shes at my place because it will depriciate mine
It irks me a bit to see someone pull straight-in and take up 2 spots, but the ones that really **** me off are the ones who park diagonally across 2 spaces - For some reason, seeing someone diagonally-parked sets me off more than someone who pulls straight in...
I tend to park way out in the boonies also, but that's mostly because a) I can't see for squat while backing out and don't want to hit anything and b) I need the exercise lol...
I was listening to Adam Carolla on KROQ recently (internet-streamed) and he went on a rant about car doors and those spring-loaded catches that's supposed to keep the door from swinging too far - he brought up an interesting point in that the first "notch" will only allow the door to open far enough to let air in but not enough for a person to fit through and the second "notch" has the door swung out all the way - there's no in-between and he blamed those spring-loaded doo-dads for one of the reasons why so many other cars get dinged (that and people not paying attention)...
