i have a 93 f250 naturally aspirited diesel.i have had trouble with the tranny. at first the overdrive button burnt up, i replaced that. a few miles later had more problems it would shift hard and couldnt decide what gear to be in. so i put a used tranny in it. at first the range sensor was bad i replaced that. then i had problems again! the overdrive button would flash the <NOBR id=itxt_nobr_1_0 style="FONT-WEIGHT: normal; FONT-SIZE: 100%; COLOR: darkgreen">truck</NOBR> would rev up a lil bit and in between shifting gears it would rev up. the ford dealer told me that they hooked the computer to it and the problem was a speed sensor that was either the one in the cluster or the one that goes to the computer. i replaced the cluster but now when it gets cold it does the same thing. is it the speed sensor that goes to the ecm? if anybody knows what could be wrong please tell me i am fed up!
Your speed sensor (VSS) for the transmission and the one for the cluster is the same part.
It is located on top of the rear end and in 93 it was call the DSS.
The path for the information from the rear end DSS is to the PSOM (inside the cluster) and then on to the computer.
i replace my speed sensor on the differential on my 93 f-250 diesel at first i drove it and the speedometer bounced all over and the overdrive button flashed. i shut the truck off and tightened down the sensor took it out again the seepdometer worked fine but the light still came on again. i think it might be the pigtail to the sensor because the tabs on the side broke off. but idk. does anybody know what might of went wrong?
If it is not the VSS then it may be the ABS module or the PSOM.
You will have to put a meter on the test point and run the truck up to 30 MPH and see what reading you are geting in ACV.
its the speed sensor because the ecm was giving a speed code and before i replaced the sensor the overdrive button would only flash when it was really cold out. now it blinks right away.
A speed codes means the PCM (EEC as you call it) is not getting good information from the PSOM. If the PSOM is not giving out good information it could be as I said above, a bad VSS, Wiring between them, ABS module or the PSOM.
Of you are getting this speed code from CM then clear the codes as the code could be old.
