OD Button Issues

Have 2000 Excursion, V10, sorry i do not know what model tranny i have. Have an issue when i press the OD button on the steering column. While in park, the light comes on, indicating OD off, but as soon as i move the gear shift to drive, it turns off. Nothing happens when i press it while in drive. Overdrive will not turn off. Truck runs in overdrive ok, but when i have the need to tow, i can't turn it off now.

On a side note, today on my way to work, cruise set at 70, truck in OD, all of a sudden the truck jerked going down the highway, giving the feeling like the tranny slipped, but only did it once. From a stop, under hard accelleration, i do not feel any slipping at all.

I'm no mechanic, so any help/ideas are appreciated. Thinking i may need to see a tranny shop or my dealer tho....

Posted under the tranny section too, but figured i would see if i could get some feedback here too....

Thanks....Jim

Common issue with that is the wire in the shifter column breaking and grounding.

ditto the above , i think you have to replace the shift lever, as the wires fail and ground out , from what i remember it was about $60, try a search on here

Buy the wires and the shifter lever comes free or vice versa.

Still, if it were a button issue, I have a free one but I doubt it.
