E-350 Ambulance

A buddy of mine has an E-350 Ambulance with a 7.3 non turbo, and he wants to know what transmission it it. He says it has the OD button on the dash and not on the end of the shift lever. I was thinking E40D, but then I thought that there may be a HD tansmission I didn't know about. So anybody know what it is?

What year is it? I'd be willing to bet it's an E4OD.

Thanks, I didn't know they used the E40D that early, pretty much every F-Series I have seen from 87-91 was either an AOD or C6 in heavier duty models.

'89 is the first year for the E4OD, it also became the factory choice if you wanted an automatic. The C6 was still an option till the mid-'90s tho, and that's what most U-haul trucks of those years have as the lack of overdrive pretty much forces you to slow down if you wanna have decent fuel economy.

My '90 had an E4OD, my '93 has an AOD.

1993 was the last year for the AOD, iirc, and there were no other electronic OD transmissions offered in 1990. E4OD it is.
