The ambulance service I work for recently purchased a new E-350 cassis ambulance. We were told that Ford was going to stop making the E-350. We were told that Ford was actually going to stop making the full sized vans all together. Does anybody know anything about this? The E-350 is doing well as an ambulance and we would like to buy more of them in the future.
I find that hard to believe. Ford has by far the largest share of the cutaway market on the E-350/E-450 chassis for ambulance service. On top of that the rental truck market - I think U-Haul and Budget (the former Ryder business) still buy Ford based vehicles for their fleet of rentals.
That would be like Ford discontinuing the Crown Vic police and taxi versions.
Heard the same thing up here...we are trying to buy a new ambulance and they outfitter is saying either dodge or chevy for 10K more that Ford...we are looking at the medium duty Internationals now...this is happening just not sure why.
We were told that they would not make anymore E series vehicles after this year. I dont know if it is true but I heard that they will come out with a replacement for this line in the future.
You sure they just aren't making any Diesel ones? As far as I know they have not come out with the 6.4L in the E series Vans yet, so they can't manufacture any in 2007 because of the new emissions laws.
The county service I work for has the same problem. What I've been told is that Ford is not putting out a diesel E series for right now because the 6.4 won't fit. Looks like my service is going to be using Chebies.
The problem is that you can no longer have a gasoline engine power an ambulance(Fed regs). The 6.4 doesn't fit (yet) and this is causing some high blood pressure.
I know back in my hometown there was also a big order of Super Duty Chassis Cabs cancelled for the 6.4L trucks. It seems that the Cab has to come off for many different problems with the 6.4L rather than just head gasket issues on the 6.0L. With all the aftermarket equipment that gets installed in an Ambulance removing the cab becomes a very difficult job, so they cancelled the order and are looking elsewhere. Ford better hurry up and get something figured out here, they have to be losing a lot of business because of this stuff.
Well, as far as rentals go....... I did read in an Industry News type of publication that Ford would be cutting way back on Fleet Sales to rental companies.
The reason stated was to improve used car values or something to that effect.
What the article was implying was that there are so many Ford branded fleet cars out there in the used car market that it lessens the residual value of any particular model like the Taurus...etc...
Hence,,,, it's hurting new car sales because people want to buy a Toyota for example,, because it will have a higher re-sale value.
We just purchased 21 new Chev.. van ambulances because Ford is not Mfg. E350/450 cut a-way vans. We have been a Ford only company for 15 years! This is bad for Ford!
