ok my button to shut overdrive off quit the other day. i took it all apart and the wires broke right were they go in the shifter i just want to put a toggle switch in it for now cuz i am planning on puttin a manual trans in it. what do i need to do to hook one up?
There's 3 wires in there and I think one of them is for the light. The default is to stay in overdrive so it won't hurt the MPG's while driving and not towing.
How soon are you switching to a manual? Do you know what all is involved? Cutting the floor board, etc? I'd like to see pics of your install if you go through with it. A BTS might be cheaper though.
I'd have to dig through the wiring diagrams to figure out which color wires to hook up to the toggle. I'll look, but can't always find things the way they have the DVD arranged.
im in the debating stage right now. i am either going to put a 6 spd in it or im going to put a 5.9 cummins and a 6 spd in it idk yet and the wires are broke right were they go in the steel part of the shifter shaft and i think the switch on the end of the shifter is messing up to cuz my on light did not work.

Some years back when I had to fix my shifter, IIRC it was less than 40 bucks for the whole assembly. That's pretty hard to beat, and I had the opportunity to route the wires so it shouldn't happen again. To date... it's still good.
i called ford the other day and the shifter was around a $100. i put a switch in it and hooked it up to see if it would it has a light in it too and if you turn it on when you first start the truck it shuts overdrive off. after you shut the switch off it will not turn back on unless you shut the truck off and re-start it. it might just be the switch idk
To my understanding you have to change out the pcm aswell if swap to a manual tranny...I'm with Chris and Casper the hundered you spend now mite save the headache of swap problems later.
