i have a 4,500lbs dry trailer i want to tow with my 96 Bronco, Ive heard some shakey things about doing so(short wheel base, steering,ect.). I have a WD hitch and a brake controller(crap on,better one coming soon). I just need some input on if me doing this is gonna end in disaster or what?
Your not screwed at all, i sold my 92 Bronco a year ago but while I had it I towed a 7000lb (loaded) trailer and had no problems, the only issues that I had was the hitch weight was a little heavy and made my rear end sag more than I liked it to, it was nothing that a weight distribution hitch didnt cure.
Just make sure your trailer brake controller is set properly and you'll have no problems.
Its really not a problem.
The towing max for mine at least was 7300. Just keep your speed reasonable. Where your going to run into problems is when the trailer is improperly loaded and you get trailer sway. That gets scary. If you find any trouble with that at all I recommend you get anti-sway bars. But I think you'll be ok.
What engine do you have and what exactly are you pulling?
Ya you'll totally be fine. Like I said you may want to consider a weight distribution hitch and anti-swaybars (you can get them as a package). Itll make your truck ride a lot better.
I didnt have them on mine the first trip , which happened to be at night and with the "new" angle my truck was sitting at with the trailer on I could not see much because my headlights were pointed to the sky.
I dont think you'll need the anti-sway to be honest, if you have the weight distribution than run with that, maybe even try a run before you even go on a trip and see how it feels. What I would recommend though is that you fill up your water when you get where you are going to keep your weight down.
Its good that you have the tow package.
How long have you had your Bronco? Have you done any mods to it?
this is my second bronco and i havent had her long, i know them pretty well(former ford wrench monkey) so i kinda knew what to look for, had a shop friend do the inppection and he said it was in great shape
mod wise..there was a oil cooler on it when i bought it,new shocks(crap monroe stuff). the steering was wicked bad so i had the shop put in a new box,i put on a skyjacker steering stabilizer, K&N air shade tree open air, thats is
take off the bottom restricted part of the air box then rotate the intake twards the front, attach the air filter with 6 screws thru the corners and mid points of the air filter into the housing, works wonders in my opinion, i can post a pic
You will be fine with your Bronco and that trailer...............You will be even more pleased when you try backing it with the Bronco, the short wheelbase makes them very easy to back a trailer with.
