Here are some pictures of my 40. I already had the hood and grille off before my Dad past, as we were putting the new radiator in. Since then I took the fenders off and started doing the brake upgrade. I only got the drivers side off so far as i got stuck with the A-arms. (Check the previous post)
I finally got the A-Arms out now I have to find a machine shop to press out the bushings and ball joints. It is Candy Apple but has been abused with over spray. The radiator is a new aluminum my dad ordered for it that I am not sure about it yet. And yes, I am putting discs, new master cycliner, shocks, springs, sway bars. Essentially a new front suspension as it is the original from 1974.
I got to a great little machine shop right outside the gate at work and they did a bang up job with the A-Arms. Not only did he press the bushings out but he blasted the arms as well. Now I have to shoot a couple of pics before I paint them. I got some of the Extreme chassis black from Eastwood and I'm looking forward to getting them painted. Has anyone had any experience with this paint?
I got the A-Arms painted but neglegted to take some photos of them when I got them back from the machine shop. I will take so photos this weekend of them painted prior to going to the machine shop. I'll be putting some time in on the truck this weekend but unfortunately not on the front end as my new coil springs are on back order until 15 Dec from Performance Online. I don't know if anyone else has used thm before but there service through their EBay store is not that great. We'll see how they come through on the 15th.
I thoight this weekend I would work on some other things like a new headlight switch, cowl seal, fuel filter install etc. Just a bunch of little stuff. I hope I can remeber to take my camera. Have a great weekend!
also took a couple pictures this past weekend to show off.
Here are the running boards after I stripped them. The drivers side had a few places ate up with ruse as well as the braces so I patched them and made some new braces. They are a bit crude but the are under the truck anyway.
Anyone know how to get the steering column apart? I got some billet parts (Turn signal arm, four way switch and tilt rod) and I'm not sure how to take the housing off. It's a chevy steering column.
No pictures this week as not much has changed. I started to clean up the frame where the A-Arms attach> I was going to attach them but it looked grungy so I started to clean them up a bit. I need to hit the frame with a wire wheel and/or a grinder before I lay down some paint. I also disconnected the master cylinder and started to take the booster off. More to follow next week.
I only got to spend a couple hours on the truck today. I am still waiting for my lowered springs from Performance Online so I took the opportunity to clean up the front clip. I dressed a bunch of welds and cleaned some slag as well as squared rhe front edes of the frame as well. After i got it cleaned up, I still had some time so I shot a couple coats of primer. I have a couple days off before Christmas so I hope to shoot the Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black then. Hopefully my springs will come in and I can get the front end back together. Merry Chrismas.
I know this is probably not very exciting but I got a new toolbox this past weekend so I have been moving tools from the old box to the new. I also got the exhaust manifolds repainted. They will have to do until I get the clearance problems worked out for headers. I have tomorrow off so I am going to try and get the rest of the front clip painted so I can start reassembly this weekend because my lowered springs finally came in! Merry Christmas.
I got out of work early today and the kids were napping so I ran over and did some work on the truck. I got the front clip painted with two coats of Extreme Chassis Black from Eastwood. I really like that stuff. I'll tell you why. After I finished painting I decided I had more time then I thought so I decided to reattach the lower A-arms. They have new energy suspension bushings so they were a bit difficult to get back in. I pounded on the A-arms pretty good with a dead blow hammer and not one chip or scratch. I was very impressed. I painted the A-Arms with two coats of Krylon primer and two coats on the ECB. I waited 24 hours between coats as I did them at night after work. I'll be back over at my Dad's house tomorrow for Chrismas with Grandma so I'll take some photos then. Merry Christmas everyone.

I started to change out some of the hardware on the steering column as well. Need a puller to get to the turn signal arm though
I made some super progress today. I got over to the house late as i was putting away the ever growing pile of Christmas decorations. I thought I would get very little done as I only had a couple hours. I got the bottom A-arms tightened up and the upper arms on along with the new lowered springs and shocks. I started to install the disc brakes but realized CPP had not sent me any instructions. I got the spindles on but they were very stiff. I hadn't greases the ball joints yet so maybe they will loosen up after that. I removed the old front brake line and ran the new one. Since I got hung up with the brakes I went ahead and put the newly painted exhaust manifolds back on. It all looks pretty good. Starting to look like a truck again.

Made the mistake of pitching the old shock mounting bolts. Luckily I had some grade 5 that fit.
I'm not sure if this is intalled correctly. I'll have to look on the CPP website for the directions. I also have the new steering arms but am not sure about how they fit or if I have the hardware.
Can't find the directions to install this. Any help would be appreciated. I did look on the website and saw were I went wrong with the bearings but as far as the backing plate and caliper bracket, I'm not sure. Each is marked R or L and I assume that is right or left as you sit in the drivers seat. (L is drivers side)The caliper kit came with three long bolts and the spindle has the large 1" bolt already in it. I also assume that the three bolts hold the backing plate/caliper bracket and the steering arms all together. I think I need to call CPP. Thanks, I am righting this more for my own good to ensure I am not being a complete knucklehead.
Well, I got the brake rotors and calipers on yesterday. It all went pretty well but I had to re do the calipers as I put them on wrong the first time. I guess instructions would have helped. Today, I went over to help my step mom put away Christmas decorations. Here in Vegas there are no attics and very few basements so most storage is done by suspended racks in the garage. Well, after about 20 pastic boxes full of decorations I got around to working on the truck. Since I had everything done to the brakes that I could. I went ahead and installed the seatbelts. Not exciting but kept me busy for an hour. I need to send the parts back to CPP so I can get my new master cyclinder and booster. I'll post pictures tomorrow
