With an auto, you just put it in drive and press the gas/brake. There is no fun in that for me. I like the truck to do what I want it to do, when I want it to do it. If you enjoy driving an automatic, that's fine and I have no problem with that. But you don't hear me saying I think they need to stop making it.
Ah so that's it; FUN. Funny how fun to 1 person is not to another. I would think it was fun if I was driving a 500 hp sports car on the street but whatever.
If you were in traffic and it was heavy and moving at a good pace, and the car in front you came to an abrupt stop because it just rear-ended the car in front of it, would you rather just push a little harder on the brake your foot was already resting on or take the time to lift your left foot to the clutch and push it all the way in and take your right foot off the gas and step on the brake also.
I may be confused here, but why would you already have a foot resting on the brake if you are driving at a good pace? Do you brake with your left foot and press the gas with your right?? So now we know that you can't change gears without visually looking at your clutch and your shifter AND you drive two footed....anything else you want to tell us I'm sorry Tex25025, but maybe that other guy was on to something with his comments about auto guys being lcd
If a car slams on their brakes in front of me I don't even touch my clutch. I just move my foot from the accelerator to the brake(the same as I would in an automatic). If I am in 5th gear I can go from 65 mph down to about 15 mph before it starts to lurch. At some point in between 65 and 15 I would have plenty of time to change gears.
There was a man a few years ago on CNN that was using his GPS. He passed his exit and it told him to make an immediate right turn and go back the other way. He turned right immediately and drove into a LAKE.

That still doesn't beat the guy that thought cruise control was the same as auto pilot. He set cruise on and then went to make coffee(he was in RV just in case that seemed strange about the coffee) and what a surprise, it crashed.

Even that one doesn't beat the one where that same guy sued the RV maker and won something like 5 million dollars because the owner's manual didn't specify that cruise control was not auto pilot......
Have you ever heard of a drag strip?

Also I drive in snow for years and when your truck is ready to slide it won't care what your tranny looks like.
yes Ive been to many drag strips and seen many accidents on drag strips where one guy loses control and flies off in front of the other guy. if you aren't paying 100% attention there it could end very badly. and I don't have my left foot on the brake pedal like you do apparently. I drive like you are supposed to. in a panic stop and one foot on the brake one on the gas. that causes accidents. my uncle crashed his car that way. left foot was in the way of his right and he ended up gunning it and hitting the brakes at the same time. hard to stop that way. my foot hits the clutch at the same time as the other one hits the brake. granted im 28 so my reflexes haven't slowed down much. maybe when im 60 I will worry about it.

Well, you do have the woman that wrestled in Jell-O and got a rash, sued Jell-O and won a crap load there.

The more I watch tv the more I think I am on the wrong path in life by trying to work for a living Every day you hear about some dumb a$$ winning millions of dollars for doing something that common sense would tell them not to. I'm thinking it's time to go down to McDonald's and spill some 160 degree coffee in my lap and hope it doesn't burn me

Ooooookkkkkkk, you go right on ahead and do that. Let me know how that works out for ya.

That one probably wouldn't work because it's been done before. I think that idiot won something like 25 million dollars for not realizing coffee was hot....

I vaguely remember that. People do stupid stuff and then want to blame someone else for it. It's a sad state of affairs, but that's what its come to now. Imagine some of the idiots that I deal with that come to my place wanting riding lessons.

Well, I'm off to go walk the dog. You all have a good night
My experience with stick trannys has been good. I had one in my first car, a 65 Mustang, and have had them since in "my" vehicles. The wife's, now that is a different matter.
Though my 6.0 '04 F-350 4X4 is somethng I, guess, I have not gotten use to. The peak horse power is way up in the rpm range and I have a tough time going up there at a stop to get the power. And you really need the power when you have a F-350 loaded with lumber and other construction equipment. Especially on a hill.
My '83 6.9 F350 (2 wd) was really strong from the bottom all the way up. Not really fast. But strong. I am guessing it was the gearing. But my current 6.0 F-350 4X4 is a dog from a stop. Unless you take the engine up into the power band, of course. A reason as to why it really flys on the freeway. Because it can easily be moved into the sweet spot, power band wise. It is not too far from 2000 rpm to the power band. As I recall, around 3200 rpms. Even slower, as long as you get above 2000 or 2500 rpms.
With my '03 7.3L Excursion 4X4 auto tranny I notice that the engine goes right to 2K rpm before it starts to move much. And it uses the top of the rpms as it moves through the gears.
What I am saying is that to use a turbo well you need the rpms to get into the power band. An auto tranny is set up to go right to them. One does not really notice it if all you have to do is put your foot down. But when you have to work the clutch you have to be aware of the rpms and where you are putting the engine. And, for me, taking to the top of the rpms is uncomfortable.
So, I can see the manual going the way of the Doe-Doe bird in an effort to use the turbo charged engines as they should be. Up in the higher rpms. (Well, high rpms for a diesel, at least.)

What is Icd ? Are you labeling the majority now? It's OK that you think shifting is fun, it's just that I don't get it.
